Lifting beam

Purpose

When carrying out loading and unloading operations by cargo cranes, lifting beams are used to lift and move long and large-sized loads. Use of slings with long and heavy loads leads to loss of effective lifting height, appearance of significant tensile loads on the sling and compressive forces in the lifted load.

Use of lifting beam enables even load distribution between all attachment points of the load, protects the lifted load from compressive forces and ensures safety during movement.

Design

Lifting beam is a beam structure made of channel bars, reinforced with sheet plates. The upper beam has a suspension bracket for hook, the bottom beam has multiple suspension brackets for slings and lifting appliances. Lifting beam is attached to lifting mechanisms by a gusset plate with ear or suspension bracket.

Since the lifting beam is attached directly to the movable part of the crane, it possible to use the whole effective height when lifting a load. In this case, it is necessary to centre the load to prevent outbalance during lifting.
