Lifting beam is an intermediate element between the crane hook and gripping devices (slings and grippers), required for even distribution of load between all points of attachment. Lifting beams are used for lifting and moving long loads, heavy weight loads and offset loads. Lifting beams are commonly used in pipeline laying, sheet metal transportation, wall panels installation and other works, where the maximum efficiency of load-handling devices is required.
Lifting beams are made of I-beam sections, channel bars or corners. The construction of lifting beam must be as simple and lightweight as possible, while maintaining its basic load-carrying capacity and safety factor. The most common types of lifting beams are linear and spreader beams, which can be further divided in accordance with the method of suspension on crane hook: with suspension by structural elements (mounting ear or finger) and with suspension by slings.
